I attended the Caribbean Week Media Marketplace on Oct. 30 in Toronto's Distillery District. Representatives from various islands, including Trinidad & Tobago, Puerto Rico and Grenada, were on hand to share the latest building developments and travel deals to tempt travellers to head south this winter.
I think the most fascinating presentation, though, was over at the Cuba table. While members of the media chatted with Cuba's press relations team, this man rolled authentic Cuban cigars quietly in the background.
Luckily for him, he said he wasn't obligated to roll cigars for the entire event, unlike rollers in Cuba, for whom rolling Cubans for hours in a factory is all in a days work.
If you plan to travel to Cuba this winter, stop by a cigar factory or tobacco plantation for a tour of the daily operations. You may be surprised to meet the person behind that perfect Cuban cigar.
